As a fourth generation piper I have grown up around bagpipes my entire life. Spending my summers growing up at all of the Highland Games across Ontario and Scotland.
My family has a strong history of piping and drumming in Canada and Scotland. My grandfather Duncan Gibson was pipe major of several bands both here in Ontario and Scotland. He has led bands such as the 3M Pipe Band, Clan Farquharson Pipe Band, and many others.
My Uncle Duncan Gibson was a bass drummer with several bands here in Ontario including the Niagara Regional Police Pipe Band, Peel Regional Police Pipe Band and more.
I currently own and play the Great Highland Bagpipes as well as the Scottish Small Pipes / Border Pipes. The Great Highland Bagpipes are likely what you think of when you think of bagpipes and is the most commonly requested instrument.
My Scottish Smallpipes are very similar to the Highland Bagpipe though produce a quieter and more warm sound, more suitable for intimate indoor performances. Please check out the videos for a video of the Scottish Smallpipes to hear how they sound!
